Wow, the weather was absolutely fabulous for our swimming sports this year.  We had an amazing number of students participate in the swimming events and it was fantastic to see so many families there supporting their children and mokopuna.

The junior and middle school got to display their water confidence and swimming skills through running races and flutterboard races.  Our senior students displayed an outstanding array of swimming strokes, which helped senior teachers to select our Interschool Swimming Team.

• Senior students: 8 year old’s and above will be doing their competitive length races in the large pool
• Junior / Middle School: 5 – 7 year old’s will be doing their races in the small pool.

1 – 1.45 lunch break at school

1.45 – 2pm  Meet back in the classes for the roll and move back the pools at 2pm.

2 pm

• Senior students novelty races
• Junior / Middle School class will remain back at school after lunch

Parents and family members are welcome to come along and support your child during their events.  You are welcome to bring along your lunch and to have it with us at school and rejoin the senior students back at the pools at 2pm for their novelty races.

Well done to our swimming team that competed at the Interschool on Tuesday, you all swam well and represented our school well.

This year our school is taking part in the He Kura Asthma Study with the University of Otago and Te Atawhai o Te Ao. The study aims to provide guidelines and resources to help us to improve support for our students with asthma. Asthma is a big problem in New Zealand with one in five children having asthma symptoms. The ways in which schools support a child with asthma can have a significant impact on their asthma control and learning. Our staff have received asthma training from Te Atawhai o Te Ao and our school now has asthma emergency kits. Other parts of the study include student asthma education, an environmental assessment and linkages with healthcare providers. There will be regular information about asthma in our newsletters or Facebook/app this year.
